Village Cinemas: Celebrating 70 years of the movies
Since opening their first drive-in cinema in 1954, Village Cinemas have grown and evolved to become a mainstay of the Victorian and Tasmanian movie landscape.
With 2024 marking their 70th Birthday and the launch of their brand refresh, Village Cinemas wanted to celebrate with a range of programs and offers designed to bring the festivities to their customers and introduce the new brand look and feel.
After developing the new brand look and feel, and defining a system for tactical offers, we began designing a range of concepts that would bring a sense of occasion to the range of planned offers.
The use of ‘Framed’ images reflected the frames used within a movie, giving life and movement to a story. This technique allowed us to tailor each offer to the audience, the content and the cinema sub-brand where necessary, while maintaining a festive connection between every offer.
Tactical campaigns ran throughout the year, supported by a new visual system that brought fun and energy across campaigns.
To add to the fun, Village Cinemas brought some fan favourites back to the cinema for a month long program, celebrating big movie anniversaries. The program ’70 years of Cinema’ was supported by a campaign that showcased movie characters that people know and love in a distinctly branded style. The culmination of this campaign was a detailed calendar that made it easy for customers to plan their visit to see their favourite film back on the big screen.
The 70 Years of Cinema Calendar celebrated fan faves in a big way, while making use of new brand elements for a distinctly branded piece.
And where would a birthday celebration be without party snacks? To get the party started over at the candy bar, we helped a birthday spin on a cinema fave. The Birthday Cake Choc Top brought all those classic birthday flavours into the Village Cinema’s VOriginals product line. Bright, fun and full of sprinkles, we designed packaging and a supporting campaign that got customers ready to blow out the candles.
Hundreds and Thousands of reasons to smile with packaging designed to wrap this movie treat in birthday cheer.
Happy Birthday Village Cinemas, and here’s to another 70 years of movies.
